I just stumbled onto this post... Thanks for your coverage of opening day of our local Broad & Ritner Farmers' Market! Our friends at The Food Trust told us that it was the best attended opening day for any of their markets - ever! We're mighty proud that our neighborhood has responded so positively to the B&R Farmers' Market, which will re-open on June 7 and be open again every Wednesday fom 3-7 pm. Hope you can make it again for opening day again this year, Melissa! The number of vendors has doubled and we're looking forward to all of the new delicious offerings. You might also be interested to know that Dickinson Square Park at Moyamensing & Morris will also have a new market this year, which opens June 5. Enjoy the bounty of the season!

Wow, we have a ton in common. I just started running about a month ago and I have made good progress, with my ultimate running goal being the Philadelphia half marathon in Nov. 2012! I will do my first 5K this summer, my first 10K this fall, and then just try to keep it up and get better and faster for the half. I'm looking forward to reading through your archives--I bet I'll learn a lot! :)

I just came across your blog and love reading about your training! I'm training for my first full marathon and although I've had a lot of great runs, I just had my 18-miler and it was pretty brutal. This gives me hope for 20!

This post made me tear up, too. Congrats on the race!! I also ran the Philly marathon and it was my first one too. It's been fun reading your blog and hearing about your marathon training while training for my own. I had a very similar (although slightly slower) experience. Since I did a 20 mile and 21 mile run while training, I was expecting the first 20 miles to be less painful. It was about mile 14 for me, too, where I started hurting. Those hills in the first half were rough on my legs. The marathon was the hardest thing I've done but so worth it! Great job! Enjoy your brief running hiatus and yoga! :)

Melissa- I seriously have tears in my eyes because I relate to everything you've written and honestly feel like I've written the same things on my own blog. If you get a minute, jump over to my blog and read my first marathon recap (providence) and most recent (new york). Mile 14 in both my marathons is where things started slowing down for me. I agree with you about the middle 17-22. And the last four miles. I was moving but I felt like I had no control of my speed or turnover. I feel like we would be perfect partners- I ran a 4:24 when I hoped for a 4:15! It is true tho that no amount of races can prepare you for THE MARATHON. My first it got up to 80 degrees, my second was perfect running weather but running 26 miles is still running 26 miles no matter what. You did really great and you have a lot to be proud of!
